Powersaves can backup and restore encrypted of the same cartridge. The saves cannot be transferred across cartridges, and powersaves doesn't allow restoring of unencrypted saves. Also, it is impossible to encrypt a save on a computer. Also not possible to use a 3DS to encrypt a save, without the cartridge. The 3DS Power Saves has an “auto backup” feature to help customers who may forget to backup their data before writing codes or power saves to their cartridges.
